Mixed Level Wheel Daytime Class

Class description: Students will start to experience the feel of the wheel or work with instructor to find a project of interest to hone previously learned skills. Centering the clay and small cylindrical shapes will be the focus for first time students, aside from just becoming familiar with clay and studio procedures. Students who have taken ceramics classes before will continue to work on skills with a set goal for this session. Students usually end class with at approximately 5 finished pieces. Class fee includes clay, glaze, tools, all firings, and open studio time while enrolled in a class. All students will be asked to complete a waiver prior to the first class.

Introduction to Handbuilding ***NEW***

Class Description: Introduction to Handbuilding with clay is a class for all skill levels. Students will practice handworking in clay and basic principles and properties of the medium. Pinch, Coil, Slab, Glaze and repeat. The class will explore the basics of practical ceramics with age old methods, while concentrating on craftsmanship. We will create three class projects and after that the sky is the limit.
Class fee includes 1, 25 lb bag of clay, glaze, tools, all firings. Basic clay tool kits will be available for purchase at the studio if students would like their own.
We need a minimum of 3 students registered to hold this session. All students will be asked to complete a waiver prior to the first class.

Workshops
Surface Decoration: Getting our hands dirty exploring surface decoration!

Students will be introduced to a variety of techniques to decorate their ceramics at the greenware stage.
Surface decorations techniques to be explore are slip inlay, sgraffito, slip trailing, using terrasig, use of different resists and transfer methods
Demonstrations will be given at the start of each session, and then students will have studio time to explore. Students should be prepared with a few pieces at leather hard stage prior to the start of each session. Wheels and hand building area will be available for preparation for next class if needed.
All materials and firings are included in the class, which include 12 lbs of clay, any tools needed, glazes, slips, and other materials for the demo that session.
Participants are welcome to attend any open studio sessions prior to the start of the workshop to have pieces ready for surface decoration. See calendar for open studio times.

Have a handle on a basic cylinder and want to add more texture to your pieces. Join me in the studio to explore some “at the wheel” surface decoration. This three week workshop will introduce students to faceting, slips, and sodium silicate work. Instructor will demonstrate the technique at the start of each session, then students will be able to throw and experiment. These techniques are all done with freshly thrown clay. Workshop fee includes 12 pounds of clay, materials for techniques, glazes, and all firings. Participants should have prior wheel experience. Class meets 3 times for 2 hours each session. Students will have access to open studio hours during the workshop to work on pieces.

Students of all levels welcome. We will work on building skills and learning new techniques. Private instruction is meant to focus on skills that the student designs with the instructor. Starting with wet clay either on the wheel or in the handbuilding room, students can decide whether they would like to continue with private instructions to complete the whole ceramic process including trimming, any greenware decorations, firings, and glazing.
Students will need a signed waiver prior to the start of class.
